Modern Designed Text Effect

I’m going to share with you about how to make modern designed text effect by using some layer styles. Is it interesting for you? If yes, let’s start to read and make!

First of all, make a new document in Photoshop. I created a new document sized 1000×500 pixels with all the default settings, RGB, 72 dpi and fill it with gradient by using colors of #8f9290, #303231 and #8f9290.

Then press D to set up standard colors for foreground and background (as black and white). After that apply Filter > Sketch > Halftone > Pattern with similar settings to these:

Now you should have some pattern like this:

Create one more layer above and fill it with black color. Then change opacity to 85% for this layer.

Now, start with creating text effect directly. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool and write out your text, for example ‘DREAMD’ in whatever color you want.

In the above image I’ve used a font called Incised901, which is one of standard Windows fonts. After that you should find some appropriate picture whish u can add to the text. It would be better if this is a picture with small elements. You can use some pics on Google Images or also feel free to use mine picture. Open up the file and copy it to the main canvas above the text layer. Change opacity to 70% for current layer and apply Edit > Free Transform to reduce the picture a little bit. Hold Shift button to reduce it pro rata.

Go to the text layer and use Select > Load Selection to select text area. Remove this layer, we don’t need it more.

Go to the layer with picture and press Ctrl+Shift+J to cut selected area to the new layer. Set up opacity to 100% for current layer again and remove the layer under also.

Use the Sharpen Tool to sharpen the text.

Duplicate current layer with Ctrl+J. Then go to previous layer and apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar settings to these:

Now we have interesting effect.

Go to the upper layer again and apply the following layer styles to the text layer:
• Drop Shadow
• Inner Shadow
• Outer Glow
• Inner Glow
• Bevel and Emboss
• Contour
• Satin
• Stroke

Now your image should look like the image shown below:

Globe Button for Your Website

Hungry for the new design elements for your website? I have a new one for you. Hope it will be useful in your new design.

Let’s begin! Make a new document with the resolution 500×300 for this tutorial and fill this canvas with white color. Then select the Rounded Rectangle Tool (Radius: 30 px) and draw the next shape using the color of #d61d23.

After that apply following layer styles to this layer:
• Inner Shadow
• Gradient Overlay

Your button should look as mine:

Now, time to bring reflection to the button. Duplicate current layer using Ctrl+J, then create a new one and flip it with copied layer to get all layer styles in one layer. After that flip it vertical with Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical as on my picture below:

To make reflection more transparent at the bottom of the picture apply Quick Mask Mode with gradient as below:

Then go back to Standard Mode. Now we have some selected area. Press Delete to clear image into the selected area.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D. Go to the next step. I would like to add some glare to the button. To do this select the Rounded Rectangle Tool (Radius: 80 px) and create a new one form using white color.

Rasterize this layer with Layer > Rasterize > Shape. After that apply Quick Mask Mode one more time and fill the next gradient:

Go back to Standard Mode and we received selected area again. Press Delete to clear selected part of image.

Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and change layer mode to Overlay for current layer.

We are done with the button. Now, move to the next step. I think it will looks better when we will put some design elements on it. To do this get out the Ellipse Tool and create rounded shape as on my picture below using white color:

After that apply such Blending Options to this layer:
• Inner Shadow
• Inner Glow
• Gradient Overlay
• Stroke

See the result below:

Time to bring some picture to our rounded design element. Find some picture of the Earth on the Google Images or use mine or find it somewhere. Open it and reduce a little bit, then place the picture as shown below.

Good, then make it black and white using Image > Adjustments > Desaturate (Ctrl+Shift+U) and change layer mode to Overlay for this layer:

Select the Sharpen Tool (Brush: 100 px, Mode: Normal, Strength: 40%) to make this fragment more sharpen.

And the last one thing that we need to do. To finish off the tutorial let’s add some text. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool and write out something with white color like on my picture below.

In the above image I’ve used Segoe UI as my font of choice, and I’ve used white color. Actually, it is commercial font, but if you don’t have it, you can easily find a good alternative, for example, Arial Black. After that apply the following layer style to this layer:
• Drop Shadow

Now, we have something like this.

In order to avoid this, you should organize your brushes. The way I do it is: I keep the brushes I use often in the Brushes folder while for the brushes I don’t use that often I have created new categorized folders (grunge, retro, flowers etc). So when I want to use for example a retro brush I load the brush sets from the Retro folder. If you have found a better way to do it please share with the rest of us.

Positioning objects as you draw

Here's a time saving trick! Did you know that you can position an object with any object-creation tool (any tool found in Rectangle, Ellipse, Object, or Perfect Shapes flyout) without having to go to the Toolbox? This tip is particularly useful if your drawing contains several objects.

By right-clicking an object with any object-creation tool, you can move or copy it to a new location in your drawing.

With any object-creation tool active, right-click the object, and drag.
A blue outline of the object follows the pointer as you drag.
After you positioned the object, release the right mouse button.
A menu appears.
Choose one of the following:
- Move here
- Copy here
The object is moved or copied.

How can also lift your click right.

Conficker Worm Shuts Down French and UK Air Forces

The London Telegraph reports that the Conficker (aka Downadup and Kido) worm virtually shut down both the French naval air force and Great Britain's RAF and Royal Navy for some time last month.

Ironically, the French had been warned as far back as October to harden their systems, but as we reported last month, millions of PCs haven't yet been protected by installing KB958644. As with other infections, the culprit appears to have been an infected USB flash memory key, and the infection prevented the French Navy's Rafael multi-role combat aircraft from being flown for several days in mid-January. The non-secured Intramar French navy computer network was also infected - users of Intramar were even told not to use their PCs!

Across the English Channel, the British were having problems of their own with a variant of Conficker. The Fujitsu-supplied NavyStar (N*) email and computer support system was the target of the outbreak. More than 24 RAF bases and 75% of the Royal Navy fleet, including the aircraft carrier Ark Royal, were infected by Conficker.

Fast ways to copy and position objects

If you want to copy one or more objects within CorelDRAW® X3, you can use a faster method than copying and pasting. Here are two fast ways to copy objects:

Use the Duplicate command.
Use the new Step and Repeat docker to create and position multiple copies at one time.

Let's take a closer look at these options.

Duplicating objects

Duplicating an object with CorelDRAW creates a copy of a selected object and positions the copy according to the offset distance that you set. Unlike copying and pasting, duplicating does not place a copy of the object on the Clipboard, and it allows you to control where the copy is placed in your drawing. With CorelDRAW X3, setting an offset distance for the duplicate is easier than ever.

To duplicate an object

Select one or more objects.
Click Edit > Duplicate (or Ctrl + D).
When you duplicate objects for the first time in CorelDRAW X3, the Duplicate offset dialog box appears. To specify the distance between the duplicate and the original object along the x-axis and y-axis, type values in the Horizontal offset and Vertical offset boxes.

Note: Offset values of 0 place the duplicate on top of the original; positive offset values place the duplicate up and to the right of the original; and negative offset values place the duplicate down and to the left of the original.

You can change the default offset for duplicates at any time. To do this, click Tools > Options, click General in the Document list of categories, and type values in the Horizontal offset and Vertical offset boxes.

Creating and positioning multiple copies

The new Step and repeat docker in CorelDRAW X3 lets you create multiple copies of an object and control how they are positioned.

To create and position multiple copies of an object

Select one or more objects.
Click Edit > Step and repeat.
In the Step and repeat docker, type a value in the Number of copies box.
In the Horizontal settings and Vertical settings areas, specify the settings you want.

3) Go to the Image menu,choose >Adjustments>Variations>and choose any good color you want. Here I have choosen green color. Now you will see that the edges will be very sharp,we need to merge it with the real hair. To do this, choose the eraser tool, reduce the opacity value to around 20 %and erase sharp edges.

This tutorial demonstrates how to use Nudge and Inner Shadow to give a button that pressed-down look while the mouse cursor is over it.

1 – Adding a background for the button

Create a new layer.

Fill the area with a brownish, peachy colour. The best way to find this colour is to click on the colour blocks on the toolbox, to bring up the Color Picker. Move the slider down to red, and then click in the middle of the colour box.

To add a simple wood finish, click Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Set it to 6%, Gaussian, Monochromatic, and press OK.

Click Filter > Blur > Motion Blur, and set the Distance to about 10 pixels. Press OK.

To create the gradient effect, right-click the layer, and select Blending Options. Click Gradient Overlay. Change its Blend Mode to Overlay, and its Opacity to 50%. If the Gradient isn't black-white, click on the little gradient bar, and choose the Black-White gradient. Then press OK.

Optional: you can use the Hue/Saturation (Ctrl+U) and Brightness/Contrast sliders to play around with the colours a bit more if you like.

2 – Creating the button shape

In the Channels window, make a new layer. If the Channels window isn't visible, click Window > Channels.

Choose the Selection Tool, and select a rectangle in the centre of the area.

Fill the area with white, and press Ctrl+D to deselect the area.

Click Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur, and set the Radius to about 8 pixels.

To re-condense the blurred area, press Ctrl+L to bring up the Levels window. There should be three arrows beneath the main window. Drag the left and right arrows in, so that they're very close to the central arrow.

In the Channels window, Ctrl+Click the "Alpha" layer, to select its outline.

3 – Filling the button with a Gradient

Go back to the Layers window, and create a new layer.

Choose the Gradient Tool. (Remember that it might be hidden under the Paint Bucket Tool.) Apply a gradient from the bottom of the image to the top.

Running your gradients in opposite directions like this increases the image's contrast, and helps to make it look more realistic.

You can deselect now. (Press Ctrl+D)

To lighten the gradient, click Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast, and increase the Brightness to +80.

4 – Adding some effects and text

Right-click your button layer, and choose Bevel and Emboss. Set the Style to "Pillow Emboss", and the Technique to "Chisel Hard". Next, choose Stroke, set the Size to 1, and change the colour to black.

Use the Text Tool to put some text on your button. I've used Palatino Linotype, bold, here. If you're using all capital letters, make the first letter slightly bigger.

Click File > Save for Web, and save the image as a Quality 60 Jpeg.

This image is your "normal", unpressed button.

5 – Creating the pushed-down effect

To make a realistic mouseover button, you'll need to move the text slightly, and give the button an Inner Shadow. These two effects combine to give a realistic pushed-down feel.

To add the Inner Shadow, go back to your button layer, and right click it. Select the "Inner Shadow" option, and then press OK.

To make the text move, click on your text layer, and choose the Move Tool. Press the Down Arrow key, then the Right Arrow key.

Click File > Save for Web, and save the image as a Quality 60 Jpeg. Give it a different name to the image you saved in the previous step.

This image is your pressed button.

6 – Making the rollover effect in your web editor

In Frontpage, insert the "normal" version of your button, just like you would any other picture. Click on it, and click Dynamic HTML effects. Follow the prompts through, and when it asks you to select another image, choose your "pressed" button image.

In Dreamweaver MX, on the Common bar, click the Image icon, and choose "Rollover Image". Put the two images you've made as the Original Image and the Rollover Image.

Making a Nebula by using Difference Clouds

I have found very few uses for the "Difference" layer option. This is an exception. I've used this technique to make some nice wallpapers, which are available at the bottom of the page.

1 – Creating Clouds

In Adobe Photoshop, make a new image, the same size as your screen resolution (I used 1024 x 768).

Choose the colours black and white (if they're not already selected), and click Filter > Render > Clouds.

2 – Making the clouds blue

In the Hue/Saturation properties (press Ctrl+U to access them), select "Colorize", and move the Hue slider until the clouds are a realistic blue colour.

3 – Creating the Gradient layer

Make a new layer above the last one.

Use the Gradient Tool to put a black-white gradient across it.

4 – It's O.K. to be different :)

Click on the layer Mode (where it says "Normal"), and change it to "Difference".

This is the Help File explanation of what's happened:

"Difference looks at the color information in each channel and subtracts either the blend color from the base color or the base color from the blend color, depending on which has the greater brightness value. Blending with white inverts the base color values; blending with black produces no change."

Essentially, what has happened is that where your gradient layer is black, nothing happens (note that the clouds at the left are the same as the clouds you had before, because the gradient is basically black).

However, where your gradient is white, the clouds are inverted, with the blue areas becoming orange, and the white areas becoming black, which looks a lot like fire and smoke.

5 – Changing orange to red

The final step is to change the orange to red. (Of all the combinations, blue and red looks far more appealing and realistic than the others.)

Merge the gradient layer with the cloud layer, by clicking the gradient layer, and pressing Ctrl+E. (This is done because you only want to colour-shift the orange part of the image - if you don't merge, you can't alter the orange part, because there is no orange part, it's just those same blue clouds hiding under a difference filter. You can try, and your orange area will go red, but your blue area will go green at the same time.) :)

After having merged the layers, bring up the Hue/Saturation options again (Ctrl+U), and select "Reds" on the menu. Adjust the Hue, Saturation and Brightness just a little bit, until the orange clouds have gone a reddish colour. (Don't move the sliders more than a touch - if you try to get a pure red colour, an unsightly line will appear.)

If you want to do something psychedelic, just go to Master (not Reds) on the menu, and shift both colours - you can make pink and green clouds if you like. :)

Layer system in Corel Draw generally less weared, however if you wish to import result of design which you make of Corel Draw to Photoshop, hence layer system very effective. Because object which you make will fixed in separate layers, so that facilitate you to edit again every object which you have make.

Make a square object with colour that you want
Select Window > Docker > Oject Manager, right click Master Page choose New Layer
Select / click name of layer which is just made to activating it
Make a Radian object with different colour previously. Automatically object will reside in layer which is just made...
Or you just clicking & object drag to layer which you wish..

How to Separate an Image from its Background

I've seen people try to separate an image from its background by using the Pencil tool, by playing with the Magic Wand, and even by trying to draw an outline with the Lasso tool.

The main difficulty with trying to separate an image from its background is that there are pixels which cover an area of the picture which is partly foreground and partly background. With any of the aforementioned methods, you have to declare whether a pixel is either foreground or background, even though it may be both.

Believe it or not, there is a way that you can cut pixels in half. In Photoshop, the way it works is that if you cut a pixel in half, you'll have the same pixel, but it will be 50% transparent, so it will be affected by what colour you put under it, just like the difference between coloured paper and cellophane.

1 – The original image

Select the Freeform Pen tool from the Toolbox (click and hold down on the pen tool if it's not immediately visible.)

2 - Creating a Path

Use the Freeform Pen to draw a rough outline around the object. (Make sure you have the "Paths" option at the top left of the screen selected.) Generally err on the side of cutting into the image rather than leaving a gap.

Use Ctrl+Click to manipulate the points, and drag their "arms" around to change the curve. To insert a new point, just click on the line.

When you've finished, right-click the line, and click Make Selection. This turns your line into a selection.

3 - Removing the background

Cut out your object and paste it into a new layer. (Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V) You can then replace your background layer with whatever you want.

I've put in this magenta (opposite of green) background to show up any green bits that might still be stuck to our budgie.

Notice there are no jaggy edges, and there is no visible green outline.

Nowadays, in this trendy world, people get very uptight when they do not look entirely presentable. This would also be the case in web designing.

Every individual would definitely want their website to look good, if not, to the best they can. Here are a few things we could look out for when wanting to create a professional looking webpage.

Color Schemes and Themes.

When designing, always choose matching colors. An example of a matching color would be to have a dark background, with visible words and designs. With the dark theme, try not to mix too many bright colors into the design. What we should NEVER do, is to mix two very different colors, such as purple and yellow. Now, of course, it would depend on the purpose of the website, but those two colors are too striking for one who wants it to look more professional.

Themes must always suit the company or rather, the organization / etc. If the website was made to cater for a food company, it would be wise to stick to that particular category, rather than to revert to a different theme, such as machinery.

Fonts should be used in regard to the formality of the website. A simple sans-serif font would suffice in most cases. Exceptional cases such as design and art groups might want to use fanciful designs and fonts. Of course, that’s only if you know what you’re doing.

Finally, we must always try to think of our visitors, see the way they see. The resolutions and file sizes of the pictures must not be too large in terms of size. This is to allow maximum compatibility and cater our visitor’s needs.

So, planning is something we should always do, before attempting something.

Make sure you have clear directions on the navigation of your website. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and concise so that visitors know how to navigate around your website without confusion.

Reduce the number of images on your website. They make your site load very slowly and more often than not they are very unnecessary. If you think any image is essential on your site, make sure you optimize them using image editing programs so that they have a minimum file size.

Keep your text paragraphs at a reasonable length. If a paragraph is too long, you should split it into seperate paragraphs so that the text blocks will not be too big. This is important because a block of text that is too large will deter visitors from reading your content.

Make sure your website complies to web standards at www.w3.org and make sure they are cross-browser compatible. If your website looks great in Internet Explorer but breaks horribly in Firefox and Opera, you will lose out on a lot of prospective visitors.

Avoid using scripting languages on your site unless it is absolutely necessary. Use scripting languages to handle or manipulate data, not to create visual effects on your website. Heavy scripts will slow down the loading time of your site and even crash some browsers. Also, scripts are not supported across all browsers, so some visitors might miss important information because of that.

Use CSS to style your page content because they save alot of work by styling all elements on your website in one go.

Maybe, there're some of you who still don't understand about blog, and still wondering about blog. As my kindness, I’ll try to review a little about blog. (Based on my version),
1. Blog, What it is?

Blog (abbreviation from Web log) is sites which more dominant in private characteristic. This means, most of the content will be affected (realize or not) by the characteristic of the Blogger (Blog user) himself.
Blog was made by the designers of the blog provider in order to work automatically and easily to be operated on, so for we that still was confused with the programming language to make one website still not the problem.If you could have made an email account in the internet, then in made blog then I was convinced you could.
2. How to make a blog?

As if when we start to make an ordinary e-mail, we’ll need an account first, to make a blog. Because of that reason, feel please to register yourself in free blog provider. We can find a lot of free blog provider in internet, and some blog provider which really famous nowadays, are http://www.blogger.com, http://www.wordpress.com or http://www.blogsome.com.

1. Click an arrow sign, inscribed with “CREATE YOUR BLOG NOW”
2. Complete the ‘e-mail address’ form, with your own e-mail address (of course with the valid one).
3. Rewrite your e-mail address in form ‘retype e-mail address’
4. Type the password as you wanted to. Type it in form, ‘enter a password’
5. Retype your password in form ‘type password again’
6. Type the password as you wanted to. Type it in form, ‘enter a password’
7. Retype your password in form ‘type password again’
8. Type the word which has shown, in form ‘word verification’. Click the white little square beside the sentence, ‘I accept the Terms of Service’.
9. Click an arrow sign inscribed with “CONTINUE”
10. Write the title of your blog that you desire (you can change it later) in form ‘Blog Title’
11. Type the name of your site in form ‘Blog Address (URL)’ .
12. Type verification word which shown in form ‘word verification’. After that, click an arrow image inscribed with word, ‘CONTINUE’.
13. Choose one template that you wanted to (You can change it later, if you want), then click again an arrow sign inscribed with word ‘CONTINUE’.
14. Wait a moment. After you meet a sentence ‘Your blog has been created’. Click an arrow sign (again) which inscribed with “BEGIN POSTING’. Feel please to fill up your blog with everything you want to. After you finish with your first posting, just click the sentence, ‘PUBLISH YOUR POSTING’, Please write What you want, if being finished then click of the publish button.
15. It's Done.

How to Host your Template Images in Blogger (Unlimited Bandwitdh)..?

If you are a regular reader of Blogger Tricks, you probably know that previously I had many problems hosting my template images. A year back, I used photobucket to host my template images.. but, the problem with photobucket and many other free image hosts is their bandwidth limitations. Once, you exceed a specific amount of bandwidth, your images won't show, instead.. an irritating ' bandwidth exceeded' image shows. Next, after that I tried to create.. like a new photobucket account per each template.. but, that also exceeded in a matter a couple of weeks.
Not only me, my other blogger template designers are also struggling to find a reliable, free image host with unmetered bandwidth.

I tried to upload the images to blogger and copy the image url from the status bar and use it in templates.. but it didn't worked. But, recently I came to know that we can actually host the images( large) in blogger and hotlink,use them in templates, forums,etc.

Here is the trick..

As usual, create a new post in blogger and upload your template images to that post... but don't publish it... keep it as a draft.
Once you completed uploading all the images, Open each image in a new window.

Once, the image is loaded in the new window, what I previously did was to copy the image location from the status bar and paste/hotlink it in templates. But, it didn't worked!

Now, the trick is, many people don't know that the url which we copy from the status bar is not exactly the direct link to that image file... that's why we can't hotlink to that image.

So, what we have to do to hotlink to that image is Right Click on the image and ' Copy Image location'. (for firefox users). For Internet explorer users, Right click on the image and go to Properties and then copy the image url from there.

Example:
For the above picture, status bar shows...

which don't work.

And the Real image url we get after right clicking and copying image location is..

Which works and we can do whatever we want.. with unlimited bandwidth :D
Hope this trick will be useful to many people who are searching for unlimited bandwidth image hosts.

1) Open an Image which you would like to retouch.
